The Hottest New (Old) Craze In Outdoor Furniture - Adirondack Is Back!
It's not a huge surprise that an American classic like the Adirondack Chair is making such a great come back in the last few years. This craze is quickly spreading since people across the country are choosing to spend more and more time relaxing in a faithfully created outside living space. I myself remember as a 6 year old, sliding completely back into one of these great old chairs, with my legs dangling just over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled the apples we had just picked and mused about the tasty apple pie topped with melting vanilla ice cream that we just knew granny would have for us after we had supper. I balanced a cool lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was gentle and warm. When Grandpa told stories, time flew by. It is truly no mystery why we like to relax outside, whether it is in your garden area, out on the patio, on the deck, or sitting on the front porch. There isn't a better way to relax than to sit down in a deep seated, high backed, comfy Adirondack and just let it all go.
You'll be pleased and amazed to find a large variety of Adirondack furniture available currently. Not only has the original style stood the test of time, but the Adirondack trend has exploded with a attractive array of material, styles, colors, and finishes. Traditional Adirondack style furniture is built from wood that's known for resisting deterioration and bugs such as cypress, oak, white or red cedar, or cherry. The wood chosen varies depending on the part of the country as do individual styles. A popular addition to conventional Adirondack is lawn furniture built out of polymer "lumber" that's made from plastic recycled packaging, old milk jugs, and such. This is not only an environmentally responsible way to buy your furniture, but you also have advantages with easy care, longevity, durability, and your colors won't fade as the pigment is mixed through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors for added protection.
So exactly where did this part of Americana come from? Well, the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This design was trendy at the many mountain retreats and vacation resorts that were trendy in those days. By the time the 1940's came around adirondack was almost every place. The furniture style started spreading south and was going west fast. As the Adirondack furniture design got more popular, and made its way around the country, regional influences started showing up. The design was given to various styles of outdoor furniture which include; benches, porch swings, rocking chairs, gliders, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a piece they call the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This fanciful design incorporates a couple of chairs with a table between them and is constructed as one piece. What a wonderful way to spend a cozy Spring afternoon with a good friend!
